On Friday, March 10, 2006 VOW helped our fiscal sponsor,
Family Health Project, organized a wonderful panel discussion
for the first annual National
Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. This panel highlighted
four women of color HIV/AIDS activists:
Miguelina
Ileana León, "A Historical Perspective
of Women in the AIDS Pandemic"
See video excerpt.
Cissy Elm, Director of the HIV/AIDS Program of the
American Indian Community House, "Women and AIDS
in the Native American Community"
See video.
Sumon Chin, Director of the HIV/AIDS Program
of the Chinese American Planning Council, "Through
the Voices of Asian & Pacific Islander Women and Girls:
Our Needs and Challenges" (video in a while)
Marie Saint Cyr, "Lessons Learned
in Developing Specific Prevention and Support Services for
Women in the Community" (video in a while)
On December 1, 2004 VOW helped organize a march from Wall Street
to City Hall and a rally at City Hall. The theme focused on
women, girls, and HIV and AIDS. The most popular chant was "Women
